Frequently Asked Questions

Are you seeing clients in person, virtually, or both?

I am currently able to offer in-person as well as virtual sessions, with my office located in San Francisco. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am currently able to offer in-person sessions only to clients who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Where is your office?

My office is located in San Francisco, CA in the Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood.

How long and frequent are your sessions?

I generally offer weekly, 50-minute sessions. I will occasionally meet more or less frequently with clients depending on their needs and/or circumstances.

What are your fees?

My fees are based on type of care provided (individual vs. couples therapy vs. mindfulness workshop, for example). I also maintain a limited number of reduced-fee slots on a need-basis, determined via a collaborative discussion about a client’s specific financial situation. I provide prospective clients with all fee-related information as part of the complementary phone consultation.

What does a “first session” look like?

During our first few sessions (usually sessions 1-3), we will discuss what brings you to therapy and I will likely ask questions to better understand your background, circumstances, and needs. I will also provide you with more information about my practice and the process of therapy, and answer any and all of your questions.

Do I need to prepare for our first session?

There is nothing you need to do to prepare for a first session. While some clients come to a first session with a clear idea of what they want to discuss, others come less certain and prefer to be asked specific questions. As long as you are interested in learning more about process of therapy, there is no right way or need to prepare for a first session.

How long does therapy usually last?

Length of care will depend on each client’s specific needs, goals, and contexts, and will be discussed and determined collaboratively with each client.

Do you accept insurance?

Like many psychotherapists in private practice, my current practice is private pay only, meaning clients pay directly out of pocket for my services. Many clients do however receive reimbursement from their insurance companies. I can provide you with a statement which includes the required information, such as diagnosis and procedure code, which you may use to obtain direct reimbursement from your insurance company.

Useful questions to ask your insurance provider are:

  • Do I have out-of-network behavioral health benefits?

  • What percentage of the doctor's fees will you reimburse?

  • Is there a session limit for behavioral health services?
